Stirling PDF homepage at stirling.com with the product workbench: a PDF library, an open document, and a PDF Tools panel.
The official Stirling PDF site, showing the unified PDF workbench and tool panel. Official Stirling PDF docs / GitHub / stirling.com, captured 2026-09-02.

This policy is the publishing rule for opensourcepdfeditor.com, and notes never type a dotted Stirling PDF version into a sentence. The current release tag on the stamp is injected from GitHub when the origin builds. Publisher details sit on about.

Check What verified means on 2026-09-02
Windows winget Command winget install StirlingTools.StirlingPDF checked against Windows Installation docs and the winget-pkgs tree
Docker compose Official compose on Docker Installation docs, then docker-compose up -d, localhost:8080, admin / stirling
Release tag Injected from GitHub at build, never typed into body copy

Sources

A fact here has to come from one of the sources below, and a fluent paragraph, a forum post, or a locker site that wraps the project name is not a source. If docs.stirlingpdf.com and a blog disagree, the docs win, and if GitHub Releases and a third-party mirror disagree, GitHub wins.

How commands are checked

A command has to match official docs on the last verified date, and the Windows command published here is:

winget install StirlingTools.StirlingPDF

The Docker path published here is the official compose that pulls docker.stirlingpdf.com/stirlingtools/stirling-pdf:latest and maps port 8080. Then:

docker-compose up -d

JAR filenames are the three names on the current GitHub tag, and those strings are checked against docs.stirlingpdf.com and the current release assets. Notes map Windows desktop and Docker, not a six-system stack, and official Mac and Linux packages live in Stirling docs.

Default Docker login is taken from official docs: username admin, password stirling, login on. The opt-out flag is SECURITY_ENABLELOGIN=false when docs still say that, and desktop login is off. Local desktop jobs that official Modes docs list as offline (merge, split, rotate, sign) are described that way. OCR and conversions that those same docs mark as server-side stay server-side in these notes. A tool count is not invented to fill a table.

Release data from GitHub at build

Release tags, asset names, sizes, dates, and the current release line on the stamp come from the GitHub API at build. Editors do not hand-type a dotted tag into body copy, and when GitHub ships a new tag, a build can refresh live release data without rewriting every sentence. The MSI expected on x86_64 Windows is Stirling-PDF-windows-x86_64.msi when that asset is on the tag. Filename patterns sit on open source PDF editor releases.

What last verified means

Verified means Windows winget and Docker compose were checked against official docs on 2026-09-02. Last verified, the date on the stamp under the heading, is that source check plus later re-checks of commands, official URLs, login defaults, and comparison tables. It is a source check, not a warranty. When a command changes in docs, the sentence is edited and the date is bumped. When only the GitHub tag moves, the build can refresh the stamp without a prose rewrite.

Fair comparisons

Compare notes describe shape: install versus browser toolkit versus a commercial suite, where bytes go, whether you sign in, and when the other product is still the right tool. They are not rankings. Prices, star counts, download counts, and a number of tools are not invented. The other vendor is linked in a new browser window. Stirling PDF is not described as a twin of Acrobat, PDF24, Sejda, Bento PDF, or iLovePDF. Sister compares sit under PDF editor guides, plus vs Bento and vs iLovePDF.

Stirling self-host is free up to 5 users. Server is about US$99 per month or about US$999 per year. Enterprise custom. Confirm on Paid Offerings.

Ads and AI

Display ads are off now. If they ever go on, ad slots stay out of the install command and out of the space between the heading and the winget or Docker command. Ads will not rewrite a comparison. See advertising disclosure.

AI tools may draft. Humans on the Open Source PDF Editor editorial team check the draft against official docs before it is published. A model cannot be the source for a winget id, an MSI filename, a Docker tag, or a login default. GitHub and docs.stirlingpdf.com can. If a draft invents a version, a price, or a tool count, that sentence is cut. Corrections: contact. Privacy: privacy.
